The Sasquatch of the knife world, the original folding Izula:
A few prototypes were distributed to some really hardcore fans for real-world testing, and then the deal between ESEE and Lionsteel fell through, meaning that those protos are the only folding Izulas anybody has seen.
Given the Chinese propensity for copying knives, I found it hard to believe that they hadn't. I just couldn't find it, until now
Now, I'm not denying that they've slapped a big "CRKT" logo on the thing, which is interesting because Columbia River has never made anything like this.
But if you look at the basic shape, it's the folding Izula.
Imma get me one, and maybe do some pimping.

Short, let me tell you one thing, I've had over 200 knives in the past five years, ranging from 5 to 500 dollars worth. No cheap knife ever made me happy, not because of the barrier in my mind that said "you can't like a 10$ knife", it's simply because you have to pay more to get more.
So first and foremost, fuck China for copying everything, including a design of something that never went into production. Second, get something with similar design, better materials and better fit and finish. You'll pay 5 times more but it will last at least 5 times longer and it will make you happier.
I've tried to find it. I've gotten tired of "tactical" knives, because I find the very features that are intended to enhance their usefulness, actually limit it.
I'm tired of thumb ramps, which add nothing, and squared off, angular-looking handles with jimping in odd places.
The Izula folder's attraction is that it is "Shibusa".
No, I'm not going to translate.
One of the constants of my life is that, the more I want something, the harder I chase after what I want, the faster it recedes from me.
I will never own a real folding Izula. Something I cannot plan for, or avoid, will prevent it.
So while your advice is sound, MW, and you may sneer at my superstition all you want (I would sneer, too, if I weren't a student of history), it is what it is......
