Ok, boots (I thought this thread was about boats at first ).
I only use mine for hiking, so there's just no point in cleaning them this time a year. I do at least 50 miles a week on these:
They're from an Italian budget brand called GriSport but they hold up really well, plus they weigh almost nothing (as far as boots go). I'm still wondering if I should replace them before I'll start my "long walk" or not.
I wasn't going to wear my Rip Saws until I had at least three coats of wax on them.
But looking at the 3+ inches of water and ice on the ground this morning, I decided it was time for them to lose their virginity.
No pictures, because you can still tell that they are black. I'll post a picture when they're covered in gray mud to the fourth eyelet row, or something equally disgusting.
Loggers are every bit as awesome as I was hoping. If I felt that I didn't have quite enough traction, I simply stomped down a little harder, and they bit right through to hard ground underneath.
I wore them a little around the house, to try and get used to the heel height. I was afraid that I would have trouble walking, because in the house, they felt huge, clunky, and impractical.
However, this evaporates in an industrial environment. With space to walk, and distances to cover, they felt right at home.
I have to spend some time washing them, especially where the diesel fuel landed, then it's on with a couple coats of Obenauf's wax.
Of course, it will take time to tell if these are an improvement over previous Timberland offerings. I'll post when I know more.
