Discuss your thoughts like grown adults about counterfeits. Knives or gear in general.

My personal feelings is that If an object represents a more expensive, larger or more exclusive item at a lower cost or larger availability that it Can actually help the original maker. For example i carry a knock off 5.11 because i cant afford a full one at this point. however through the use of this cheap knockoff i know what i want and in the future i can make an informed decision on the object that im about to drop a ton of money on.

I've bought a fake Strider, a fake Mantis, have had a bunch of cut rate SAK replicas. With the exception of the Strider fake the others are total junk.
The Strider on the other hand (and I would assume the newer fakes coming out) was decent. I can't comment on the claimed materials, but they were extremely close to the original.
I think I classify myself as not a counterfeit guy. I see a use for them though. As a "feeler" to see if the real version is right for you. I can also see the cheaper variety for beaters.
In the end I think I would gravitate toward buying a different knife that I could afford over a copy of something I can't.

In the Jeep industry there are Warn winches. They cost a fortune and have a great warranty and fancy red W. Eventually people started to make cheaper alternatives with similar designs and comparable specs. They dumped the warranty and lost the fancy W. Close but not exact and for a fraction of the price.
What happened,Warn started making a budget friendly version. Less warranty, similar materials to the competition, and at competitive prices.
People started buying the budget Warn. There is a lesson here.

As long as they don't try and pass it off as an original piece then whatevs. Yes, some people spend their lives perfecting their art, then someone goes and 3D prints the same thing, is a slap in the face. But if you want quality product, you'll buy the real deal. Can't afford it but want the style, you'll probably either save, bargain, or even DIY. I think there is a line between DIY and Counterfeiting jsyk. (Selling/Personal Use) If it's clear that this isn't the same product, no bigs.

IMHO, there's a difference between clones and counterfeits. I don't like the idea of someone trying to pass off a fake as the real thing. I don't like straight up copies wherein the original maker's name is adorned on the product to make a quick buck.
Clones are "fun" to use as a feeler (or a beater). When I first got into knives, I got an SRM710 to see how I would like a Sebenza. I like the Sebenza, but it's not something I liked as much as I thought I would - and by getting the SRM, I didn't have to go trough the hassle of buying/selling a Sebbie, not dropping the cash for one.
I see clones the same way I do generic brand foods. Generally speaking, clones have their subtle differences.
If somebody has a problem with another person buying clones, I'd best not see them buying generic/house brand food and medicines. It's the same concept.
