I have an idea for a wooden jig that would fit on the work surface and allow you to push the blade into the belt but it would have stops so you don't go to far. Magnets in the face of the jig hold the blade. Let me see if I can draw what I'm thinking of.

wooden jig is probably not the best idea, steel heats a lot and wood can't always handle that temperature plus I suppose he submerges the blade into water, so the wood would constantly get wet.. it's a good idea but imo it wouldn't last very long.. i might be wrong though
In my head, the knife sits against a set of magnets on a two piece jig. The upper part of the jig slides along the lower in two tracks and bolts are placed in the tracks to allow adjustment of limit stops. The bottom of the jig has pegs (dowels maybe) that sit in the grooves of the table. Jig sits on table, knife on jig and you slide the jig forward until you hit your stops. Want to angle the piece? Drill holes in the back dowels and have them run straight through the jig. When you want to change the angle, move the back dowel up or down and then slide a cotter pin (nail) through the hole to lock in the angle. If you slot the attachment point to the upper jig fixture, you could angle it one way or the other for complex angles. Of course after building this, you will find something online for less than $50 that would do the same plus have a graph of how to set it up to achieve a given angle at a certain depth.

Cool idea WJ. Im not sure how practical it would be for me, but cool idea none the less.
I just got a bubble jig, and you can set it to a certain angle. They are pricey though at 80 bucks.
There are lots of simple jigs with just angle iron. Some of them just hold the handle, thats what id prefer. I want to feel with my hands. Some of them cover the entire blade and handle and only expose a part of the edge but having steel or wood or anything between me and the blade would reduce feel a lot.
I do indeed dip it in water with some soap to cool it off. The soap helps the debris sink to the bottom and stay there.
Here is an awesome jig for filing in bevels. It prevents you from going past the plunge line as well. Ill be trying one of these before too long. Sure filing takes much longer, but mistakes take much longer as well.

Really you think so??
149 plus shipping... Give me a break, thats retarded.
Im going to bash on it a little now, feel free not to read this.... I may be understanding what im seeing wrong... LORD i really hope im not understanding this right....
Maybe they look awesome but thats it IMO.... Only good for certain applications. Unlike the bubble jig which you can use on any type of knife at any angle you prefer on any grinder in the world. And even though i think the bubble jig is overly expensive, the snody one is more expensive and no where near as useful in my opinion. People pay for the Snody name...
I think they cover too much of the knife to use your hands to get a good feel on the blade, and they are basically the same thing you can make with angle iron or other metals at a fraction of the price, then they are welded at a certain angle that only works well on certain grinders... They dont adjust, so your stuck using a certain angle on all your designs and any grinder you go to use. Plus its not a stand alone system... You still have to use a clamp for fixed blades...
Plus he wont tell you the angle they are set at. they tell you to measure it yourself...

I got lost in this video. It's amazing. I wish I had of seen this before I bought my grinder.

Yes sir!! That guy is awesome, he also makes a sweet sanding block as well!!
My father does a lot of work with wood... And i was talking to him the other day and told him i was going to make a wooden jig soon to hand file bevels, he told me to send him the video so i did... He calls me up yesterday and says he was going to make me one this weekend.. Im excited
Hey Willy check out intarsia. My father has been doing it for years, since i was a little kid, using only the natural colors of wood, and has sold quite a few pieces at art/trade shows. Some of the pieces sell for BIG money too. With your creativity and carving skills i bet you could do some awesome stuff.

I made a trout when i was 13... I sold it for 35 bucks LMAO... My father sold most his stuff for a few hundred bucks though. Some of them online sell for over a grand. The one in that picture is 2200 bucks.

Awesome stuff Max.
They were ALL over our house .
My father is still holding one for me that he made me back when i was 12-13 or so. It was Taz wearing a jersey. Has happy birthday Richard engraved in it. Well over 100 pieces of wood in that thing. each piece was cut out separately and hand sanded. Must have taken a while!! When i left for the army i asked him to hold it for me.... He still has it. Ill get it back when i move down to Florida and hang it in my shop.
i was just saying cause i've seen a lot of people using it and they all had very good opinions about it so
What people?? Were they drunk ???
No worries man!! everyone has different opinions, them peoples opinions are dumb though
Just messing with ya bud, i dont like it personally... and think its WAY over priced, and limited in function, but if it works for people than awesome sauce!!
