I don't usually carry any, but I'd like to get a poncho to go in my EDC bag. Let's see what you have and read your recommendations.

SP got me thinking about it with her comment about tarps. I thought a poncho would make for a good small tarp-like EDC item. That and I watched Unbreakable the other night and BW looked awesome as a ponchoed hero.

I told myself last year after the rainy season that I was gonna be more prepared for next year. I ignored myself and bought knives instead. :( I would like to get a poncho to put into my bag along with maybe an umbrella. I also still need to buy some friggin boots.
True-Spec ponchos in most bags used for hiking or BOBing. I also have a couple of Carhartt ponchos that I got for buying lots of Carhartt stuff. My work truck has some ANSI rain gear supplied by my employer. Like Shorttime said, it is usually too warm when it is raining to wear the rain jacket AND do your job, so mostly you just say F-it and go without. Any brand named rain shell from an outdoor store will serve you just fine if a poncho doesn't fit your lifestyle. Also, the cost difference is 10 to 1, so if it is just an "insurance" item, the poncho is a better value.
And if you really want to go frugal and only want one for emergencies, you can get very cheap ones at WallyWorld that take up very little room in a bag.
Oh, and KAMM, my wife and I both have Blunt umbrellas. Worth every penny. I talked about them here.
Oh, the Stormtech poncho folds to 6in x 4in x 1in. Probably smaller if you really try. Its often warm and wet here, so you don't want a big jacket, but something to throw over you if it really chucks it down.
KAMM, I bought those Blunt umbrellas directly from Blunt. At the time, there was a coupon code to save 20%, so it took the sting out of the purchase. If I remember correctly, if you go to the Blunt website, you can find a local dealer.
Most of the time I have a small folding umbrella in my purse/backpack and almost all of my cold weather jackets do have hoods which I always prefer over an umbrella as long as it is not raining cats and dogs
For trekking I do have two ponchos though. The Wäfo is the first I've bought and even though it is a good one it is a poncho only. I bought the Exped much later and this one is poncho, tarp and bivy

What's a bivy? Is it awkward at all since it can change into all the stuff? Got a link?
