I musta' done tens of thousands of drawings of knives over the years, so I have very clear ideas about what I like.
I've also given the topic way more thought than most people think is necessary, and I have very complicated ideas about the relationship between the point of the blade, and the rest of the handle, as well as handle shape, and other things that few other people care about.
These are the reasons I don't buy many knives, especially at the top end of the price range.
The Sebenza is an excellent example: although everything about it's mechanical function is top shelf, the handle design, and thus the ergonomics, are no different from everything else out there. Yawn.
I think about knife designs from a "so what?" perspective. That "bump" is an extra step in machining, and finishing, so, I think it should serve some ergonomic or structural purpose.
Looking cool is a purpose, too. But I'm a clod, and I don't understand that shit. So if it's there because it looks cool, then tell me to shut the fuck up.
Another redesign. I decided I wanted a smaller knife, about the size of a small sebenza. this is a 1 piece Ti handle with ball bearings. I haven't done it yet but I'm going to design a few other blades for it as well. Probably a drop or clip point and a wharnie. Check it out.
Do your reading if you've never worked with Titanium before. Slow feed speeds, lots of coolant. Titanium likes to gall and work harden, so buy good HSS cutters. About ten of them.
Can I come over? I have an idea....... Seriously nice piece of equipment. Kinda hard to EDC, though.
I thought about drilling a lanyard hole in it to see if that makes it easier to edc but I haven't tried it yet. 8-)
I would like to try building scales for the Nano. I'm way behind on customer work at the moment but if you can wait a little bit I would love to give it a try.
Anyone want to trade a Nano for a Shotglass or Biner?
