So Im wanting to put together a SMALL kit to keep in my pocket for some upcoming trips I'll be taking. Example: I'll be going back to DC with my school, we're not supposed to have any bags or anything with us and often away from bus for, pretty much, the entire day.
So I dug up an old Altoids tin from a storage tote with my 'edc' stuff and am wanting to put together a small kit that I can keep with me on the trip. I'll be going to various places, and Im treating this like the TSA: No knives, no firestarting.
Ideas? Of course I'll do a small, basic FAK...really just a few bandaids and neosporane etc But Im thinking of what else I might want to pack in it. Sewing kit?
Ive done ______-specific tins before (like a firestarting tin, a sewing tin etc),but never an all-around one
I know what it's like to be with kids all of the time, they're always breaking something, getting cut etc - they love to come to Mr. Owens for help, knowing I have 'tools' (Style PS) that can help them.
Just looking for ideas. Been spending the past two days messing with the tin, trying to wear the finish out a bit - lots of just rubbing it, sliding it across my desk etc
The Style PS is a good option (I've flown with it, just don't try to take it into a federal building that bans scissors). I would include: Safety pins Small FAK Sewing kit is not a bad idea Paracord Think about gluing a small mirror to the underside of the lid Wipes - hand wipes/alcohol wipes Pain reliever

So I decided Im going to put a cheap Vic Classic in it (it cost me a buck or two at a gun show). that would give me scissors, tweezers, and a pen (yes, this one has a pen in it) as well as the blade and file/phillips combo. Again, if I lost it to a security check Im only out a buck.
I have put some wet wipes in Thought about a compass in. Zip ties? Paracord sounds good Thought about some advil or headache/body ache medicine for those long walks The sewing kit would include safety pins - I keep two safety pins on me DAILY, I love them, very handy.
I thought about getting some stiff foam and cutting out slots for some of these small things (ie: compass) to keep it from rattling around. We'll see. Its fun to think about. To think about what I might need over an 8 hour period of being away from all of my other possession, what I might need in an urban environment, what would actually be handy, not just overkill.
I need to get an old bike tube for a 'ranger band' as people call them to keep it sealed up in my pocket and through security etc.

What would I need/want with me for about 8 hours in the city? What might come up in 8 hours of being in a big city that I could handle? This has a very specific reason for assembly, a trip to DC in two months (popped into my head, why not knock it out now and evolve over the next two months), a trip that will take us through security which may or may not be very relaxed.
So here we are, an Altoids Wintergreen tin VERSION 1.1 straw with two threaded needles sharpie mini compass file two buttons Tylenol pills, have 5 toothpicks inside the tube too 5 bandaids Vic classic - SMALL pair of scissors on it, very small blade, and file/screwdriver combo. In the scales are tweezers and a pen.
It fits, but isnt very snug, which is good and bad. Good because that means everything doesnt have to be 'perfect' to fit in there Bad because it rattles a bit when walking.
Ive already decided to ditch the compass, may get rid of the file too. Probably the Vic as well still need to do paracord And, I thought about adding a short USB to Micro charging cable, as one of the most used tools on these sorts of trips is my cellphone Still need to put a couple zipties in too Also, maybe some pepto tablets
Thinking about risking a Style PS on my keychain, along with my Fenix E05 85lm light. The PS has no blade, but has tweezers, pliers, scissors, and a file/screwdriver combo. This would allow me to get rid of the Vic, only thing Im losing then would be a blade (might get yanked in security) and the pen, but I have the sharpie. Also frees up space in the tin, and no longer need dedicated file.
Think about getting a yard of duct tape and wrapping it so it is flat. A charging cord for the phone and maybe a backup power pack would be good. I like the style PS, I couldn't bring it into the federal building in Philly though as they don't allow any scissors.
