It's far from a sure thing. Lights are not high on my priority list, and my Streamlight Polytac does well for me.
But it eats batteries, and CR123A's are relatively expensive.
Work provides C and AA cells, so it might be good to have a flashlight that works on them.
Wants: Under $100 (Rules out the Hellfighter. Shame.) Runs on C or AA cells Single-mode tail click (click once, turns on, click again, turns off) As much throw as possible! If I can signal the ISS, that would be great Impact resistance IPX7 water resistance would be nice, but probably not necessary LED would probably be better than a quartz or halide-based light source, because of shock resistance.
Do Not Want: Multiple brightness settings, strobe settings, programmeable UIs. Full brightness and off are the only things I need. Pocket clip. Not necessary. If it's not in my pocket, it's in my pack. Changing Focus. I have a light on my hat that has a decent floodlight setting. I don't need anything but the longest, brightest beam possible.
Things that aren't important: Beam color Light size (length, width, head size are all negotiable. It would be nice if it fits in a pocket, but the price limit listed above pretty much steers a lot of the other things)
