There is this thing among the bushcraft guys called the "Nessmuk Trio", usually consisting of an axe or hatchet, a fixed blade knife, and a folding knife.
Being a city boy, I started thinking about what this trio would translate to in an "urban" context.
The Nessmuk trio is a basic toolset for woods survival. In an urban setting, the translation (that makes sense to me anyway) would seem to be a bug-out or get-home kit.
I thought I would offer my ideas, and see if it goes anywhere. If not, more pictures of Ashley Graham are always an option.
I would replace the hatchet with a demolition tool. I already have a Stanley Fubar,
so that would be my go-to.
A Multi-tool to replace the folding knife. The Crunch is generally reckoned to be the "overbuilt" one in the Leatherman line.
Last would be a fixed-blade knife. It's original purpose was for game prep and other food chores, but in the concrete jungle, it's role would seem to need to change. Self-defense is a possibility, and there may still be a need to chop things that the breacher bar can't quite handle.
My choice (since I already have one) would be a Khukri,
something with about an 8" blade. That would be large enough, without being overly awkward.
If anybody else cares to weigh in with something relevant, I would be interested to hear it.
Yeah, stock photos. Deal with it.

If I was in an urban environment and needed to get out, I'd go much more low profile. Something like a Stanely wonder bar, a SAK Pioneer, and maybe a Bench made Triage. If I had a back pack it would be a little different. The small Fubar, a ST300 and a Bencmade 375.

Urban environment - something I was told, that makes sense to me, is to bring bolt cutters. You may need to cut a lock on a gate or a padlock on a door (storage unit / shed). This is only if you have a bag with gear.
Having carried only a Cadet for the past few months at work, I found that I rarely even needed that. In normal everyday situations, 90% of people on EDC forums and groups don't have a need for a knife. It's more of a liability than being useful - other people look at you like you're weird, it's semilegal, you can't walk into government buildings, you can't fly with it...
Flashlights and MTs are cool. The modern, urban citydweller has no need for a larger folding knife, let alone a fixed blade
If SHTF, don't fool yourself, none of us possesses the skills to be alive long enough to even need a knife

I do use a knife, if not every day, every other. Most days a 1" blade would do but some stuff I cut, a larger knife that lets you get a good grip comes in handy. In a SHTF scenario, a fixed blade makes sense as there is no lock to break, it can be used in more ways and can be re- handled / sharpened many ways. I don't fit into the generic "prepper" category but my background lends itself to having a better shot than most at survival when SHTF. Common theme for most places that don't allow weapons - high stress / tension and high population density.
