Alright guys with my 20th birthday coming and going, I've started to think very seriously about what Im going to be carrying when I am able to get my CCL sometime next year. The lowest ill go is a 9mm, longest barrel length is 4" (Id like to keep it as short as possible) and the highest im willing to spend is 1,000$ Seeing as ill be saving for it all this coming year. Im not interested in Glocks... Here's a look at what i've looked at thus far.
And.

Hobbies: Sleep, camp, beer... often combined, though not usually in that order. Favorite Beer: Dunno, whatever I have recently made is usually my favorite.
I've been really happy with my Kahr CW9. It's a no frills gun, but I've been more than pleased with it. Easy to conceal and light enough to go unnoticed most of the day.
Back when i owned guns my 3 favorite for carry were the .45 M&P, .40 Springfield X D, And a Ruger P345D
Out of those 3 my top favorite was the X D. It shot very well and was comfortable for me to hold and carry.
Firearms are really about opinions though... You need to be comfortable with it personally. If you are comfortable holding it and carrying it, and can fire it proficiently then thats whats important. Its always a good idea to go to a range that rents guns or lets you test them and try them out yourself before buying one.
Good luck with your search brother, and stay safe!!

If you don't like glocks what about an FN. They are more complex to maintain but are very reliable semis from what I understand. Also CZ-75s are supposed to be outstanding. I have yet to fire one but I have handled several. For me with huge hands they point very well, with glocks I am always low left of my target when I point it.

I have seen a Kahr PM-9 jam about 4 times while firing one magazine. I have seem them repeatedly fail, even when all sorts of ammunition was tried out. I wouldn't recommend using this brand of firearm to protect your life. Just me.
Roy, you are a diehard 1911 fan. I would carry something you are very familiar with. A big guy like you can conceal a full sized 1911 easily. I know I can. And you are almost as tall as me. And, since you like a vest during cooler weather, it would make it even easier to conceal. Summer would be a little harder, but, just keep your shirt untucked and you'll be golden.

Ive thought about it.. Specifically buying my fathers Dan Wesson PM9. But, Id like something smaller and lighter.
