Knife porn first, boring tl;dr, later
The metallic clip screws against the blue clip bother me for some reason.
I'm not wild about the blue. I think the clip is getting replaced, and I really want a chain ring bolt for the pivot. I'll have to figure out how to get that damn thing out of there.
I've been an unapologetic fan of Ray Laconico's clean (boring?) designs since I first saw them on Bladeforums. Not sure how long ago that was, but at least four years. I knew I would never be able to get one of his customs, so when I saw that the Jasmine was being mass-produced as the Kizer Gemini......
I might have squeed.
I was very taken by Filip De Coene's designs, and Mr. Laconico seems to follow the same design ethos. Perfection is achieved not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away: the knife, stripped of all but a collection of lines and curves.
For all of this, the Jasmine does compromise function for form. There is a subtle relationship between where your index finger wants to rest on a knife, and how easy it is to get the point down into whatever your want to cut. The Jasmine does not make this as easy as some others, but as you might have noticed from my insistence on calling it by the same name as the original custom, I don't give a damn.
I could go on and on. There are things about it I want to change, and as time goes on, I may. I get over knives pretty fast, especially when I know there is no chance I will own one. But the Jasmine, is something I've never quite been able to move on from. So to own such a faithful production version is a new experience for me, and I want the good to last beyond any minor problems.
I had a jasmine and wasnt the best made knife but wasnt horrible but nothing really drew me to it or stood out at all so I never really carried it at all. I sold it and actually have never picked up another one of his knives. Some knives just sing and some sink. I Pretty much now know exactly what I like but yeah sometimes you try and let them grow on you but usually doesn't work.
