some reason i thought rei was more for the same kit, but i like your idea loads better thanks for the info mooshi havent really wanted to bite the bullet for one yet just sort of snoopin ill check out rei tho, im a member there so i got a lil check to use yet want one that can charge quickish and do usb items and some other stuff just havent studied up yet
I need something that is able to charge my tablet, GPS, and phone (& a quantum DD, ). & lets just assume I need it to do that daily for weeks or perhaps even months on end. I'm not too worried about the GPS & phone & can even carry spares for those if needed, but my tablet has a pretty hefty battery (4000mAh) that can't be removed. The Extreme comes with it's own rechargeable battery with a capacity of 9000mAh so that's good, but I'm not sure how long it would take to charge it with the panels that come with it.
The Powermonkey stuff is cool. I looked into it at the same time I was looking at Goal Zero stuff.
It would take a while to charge via sunlight though - the times they give are in direct/optimal sunlight, usually. So maybe get a backup item such as a Trent or Anker? Those have super high capacities. Pair it with a Goal Zero panel and you should be good. I say Goal Zero only because it doesn't have a proprietary USB in/out like the Powermonkey does.
I would hope that with a 9000mAh capacity, the Extreme could charge up your tablet, then be left out to recharge itself via solar after. That would be good too. I only mentioned the above because let's say you get something that's like 12,000mAh, you kind of have that cushion in the case that you don't have the greatest amount of sunlight to charge up the 9000mAh of the Extreme in a reasonable amount of time. I hope that makes sense.
;) Take this all with a grain of salt. Just my opinion.
Even though I don't get as much capacity as other options out there, I chose Goal Zero's Guide 10+ specifically because I could easily carry an extra set of NiMH batteries with me if:
I couldn't charge via solar
Internal lithium cells eventually get shot; having AA/AAA cells would enable me to just swap them out without having to buy a new housing
I have commonality between the charger batteries as well as my flashlights
Of course, that setup only works for everyday small things like my phone. haha :)

Cool beans, I had never heard of the brand before so some conformation it is reputable definitely is nice, thanks ma'am
Of course an even larger capacity would be great, but I have to carry all that stuff on my back too & I'm pretty much over my weight-limit already so this is pretty much the max for me. I was looking at the slimmer set with 2500mAh battery first to be honest, but I don't think that will do for days with bad weather or in wintertime.
I like that Guide 10 set that Norse posted too btw (especially because it comes with a flashlight, lmao), but I think that would be a too light a set up for my needs. I'll look in to some additional panels though, at least those are lightweight ;)
NICE! You got a Hinderer today? Crazy. What's the watch?
Yeah it's a xm-18 3" non flipper slicer grind. I miss mine that I had before and this was a good deal on USN. Plus I wanted a non-flipper and a 3" so there a harder to find production. My steel flame clip has a place to call home again also which is a plus . The watch is a nixion decision tide watch. It's a pretty nice watch that looks like nothing I already have so yeah.
I'm not sure why (could I have seen it in your EDC-thread perhaps?) but I suspected the Wolfcraft was yours, and perhaps the coloured bottle?
Perhaps there are more items you could fill me in about though, if you could hop over to the other forum when you have the time? You have an unanswered message there anyway
