So I ditched the belt sheath for my leatherman for a more discreet method of carrying.....in my pocket.
Started popping my Wave in the 5th pocket on my pants and really enjoy that location - out of the way of wallet, chapstick etc, but still easy to get to.
I crouch down and it causes no issues or anything, Im into it.
Problem is that its wearing out my pocket, significant wear around the edges especially at the pivot points (mounting screws for plier head etc).
I got to thinking - how can I fix this?
I picked up a leatherman brand MICRA sheath for, well, the micra and its just super basic - some thin leather sewn together.
A quick trip to the craft store and a few bucks later and I left with this.
1lb scrap bag of leather - 3.50~
thread - $2
assorted pack of needles - $2
So I found some pieces that were large enough to wrap around the WAVE and just sort of stitched it up.
(note to readers: at this point I've only stitched buttons back onto shirts, I'm a real novice)
This is what I made:
(hard to tell, but leather is a dark brown)
Well, I'll be honest, its not eye candy but it'll work.
But I have to/will carry this daily and I dont really want it all busted up.
So I used the piece above as a template, just wrapping another piece of leather around the existing and marking/trimming
This time I made a line about 3/16" from the edge to help guide me when pushing the needle through (all of this done by hand and you can tell i made some mistakes on the first one.....BIG mistakes).
In the end I finished with this.
Not perfect, but good enough. If it doesnt work Im out 8 bucks (sort of, as I still have about 18 yards of thread and the 7 needles plus a lot more leather)
the knot on the side is where I decided to finish it and didnt know how to do it besides making a knot. I dont know.
Moral of the, very long, story - if you want something and its not made - CREATE IT. Spend a little money and time and see what you can come up with. Might be awesome, might not be, but at least you'll know you tried.
