Well, I'm going absolutely batty not having anywhere to set up the lathe and other goodies. I have inquired about another place with the option of rent to own that has several sheds out back for work areas. One for woodworking, one for metalworking, and one for a "mother in law" apartment. I'm crossing my fingers this one pans out. Great location, not too big and tons of room for the dogs to play.
Finally decided to try turning on the back porch. Not the most solid of locations. But, turned a knob for a cane prototype. Used a busted broom handle for the shaft--hehe he said shaft-- and a scrap of firewood for the knob. Was going to recess a spot on the top for a coin, but the hole wasn't big enough to get my jaws into. But, a good cane shaft blank is 1 1/4" not the 7/8" I used so the next one should work better. Didn't sand it. Just wanted to get the fit down. Did sand off the finish off the handle though.
Rough grinds on the bevels. Need to hand sand and heat treat then finish the bevel and sharpen them. But, can't heat treat until I get holes drilled for the handles slabs. That will be Monday at work. Drill press makes for nice square holes
On a side note, I may possibly be moving to a house with a few outdoor sheds for a workshop. Will know for sure Labor Day weekend. Going to look at the inside then and discuss rent to own options. Would be cool to have the room for my shop again. Set up wood and metal working areas. Kid is taking welding and wants a place to weld.
Going to work on the little cleaver a bit today, try and get some more grinding on the Keys and finish a paracord snakewhip. No pics of the whip since it's still a pile of cord.
May have to order more belts to finish the Keys. Going to try the bench grinder to rough grind then my belt sander to dress them. The little cleaver is at a bit of a hold while I decide how thick to make the scales. Was going to just g 1/8" G10 but that might be too thin so was considering adding some Purple Heart to it for a bit of contrast and thickness.
I will say, it's definitely not the prettiest braiding I've done. But, it shows me where I need to improve. I've only popped myself a few times. lol. Big boss told me if I need to, crack the whip to get them working. So, I asked if I could bring one and he said sure. Don't think he thought I was serious.
For this group of misfits, I'm doing the Odin's Keys for $30 shipped priority PP Goods. So far, only ones with them are members of this group. Some are a bit inactive, though. One changed email and can't get back in.
Small disclaimer, I will ship internationally, but it will cost a little more. Two are already in Europe.
One step closer to getting my shop back up and running. I have a contract in hand. Just need to go do an inspection with someone that knows what they are doing and work out some finer points of the contract and we're done. 0.67 acres with two horse barns and two other sheds. I can use the horse barns as storage until we get completely settled in.
