If any of you want a solidly buit hollow handle knife I whole heartedly recommend Wilson custom knives. Sam has some videos of his blades on YouTube. He is also a super nice guy and will do anything to please his customers. Check him out and see if you like what he has to offer cause he has some unique and cool features with his knife and his sheath system.
He describes in words and pictures what went into building the knife, and it seems well thought out. Hollow handle knives are often perceived as lacking in strength, and Mr. Wilson addresses that in his post.
I have no experience with hollow-handle knives so I can't comment, either.
I should also mention that I am a registered user at Bladeforums, but I have no connection or affiliation with Bladeforums, or Sam Wilson.
Hey Zombieslayer: have you ever had a chance to handle one of his knives, personally? I would like to know what your impressions are.
Not yet, haven't had a chance to get up to Sam's neck of the woods yet but, that being said we have an impromptu meet and greet scheduled for when I do get up there and rest assured I will do lots of pictures and commentary. What I can tell you is this. I have a really good feeling about Sam, he is originally from Missouri and seems to be an all good ol boy. We have had many conversations over the past few months and he really wants to break into the mainstream someday. When I say mainstream I don't mean a dominant custom maker but, a solid reliable source for cutlery that can be made to your specs if you don't care for his design or just want to tweak it some. He has a great sense of humor and is very personable over all. This is his dream that he wants to realize. I admire him for that. I have handled hollow handled knives from the old Lile shop in Russellville, Arkansas. It was about 1.5 miles from where I once lived. I have actually seen the craftsmen put together a hollow handle and have an idea of what goes into it. I really think Sam has a good understanding of what needs to be done to get it right.
