I've already put a post for these in the BST area, so this blog will be more for pic sharing, chat, etc. So lets start with some info. This project started in the Summer of 2013. Inspired by Atwood, I set out to create my own titanium key chain tool. At that time I was building custom fixed blades and getting a little bored with it.
I started by making 4 simple Ti Pendants
From there, I moved onto the "G1 Bandicoot" The name Bandicoot comes from the "Lesser Bandicoot" an aggressive sub species of the common rat from India.
#1) The Rat has some comedic value in my personal life and #2) they kind of look like a little rodent.
These were some of the first G1 Bandicoots, and were 100% handmade with a grinder and Drill Press.
These handmade Bandicoots sold quite well so I decided to try a few out of Timascus...
The Timascus Bandicoots were selling in a matter of minutes and it was at this point that I knew I had something that I wanted to really invest in. I decided to have a CAD file drawn up and have a batch of about 30 G1 Bandicoots cut. I had fun with those, doing patterns and anodizing on most.
After the G1 batch was gone I had a few ideas to "enhance" the design. So I worked with my water jet guy and come up with the G2 Bandicoot, which is the design I am currently selling..
To date I have gone through 1 batch of the G2 design and have a second, larger batch on the way. I'd be lying if I said I didn't make any money on these, but it's not a lot. My price is around half of what others are charging for similar items. I like it this way because this hobby is a passion, not a job. At a lower price my product is more accessible.
That being said I am a true believer of the free market and have nothing but respect for all other craftsmen who are selling any product at any price.
So there's the short history of this project, if you have any questions or comments please post them here!
