So I ordered 2 .080 sheets of 12x24 kydex today off of amazon (one seller, which is Prime, has several deals going, including a BOGO on this stuff, so both were only 17 shipped)
I know nothing about the stuff I know some of you do How about you help a brother out
What do I need to make stuff out of kydex? I have a heat gun What other tools? Tricks? Tips?
I have a picture of my press in Kilroy's kydex thread. My best advice is practice, practice, practice. Easiest for a beginner is a simple foldover pouch. Think of a taco shell with the knife, light, whatever inside.
You will need eyelets and a setter. I use #8 usually. #6 will work on smaller projects. If you want to use a Tek-Lok, you will need to research the spacing, I think it is 1 1/2" between centers.
Other than that, Good Luck! It can be very rewarding making your own sheaths and cases.

I use an older toaster oven for larger projects instead of a heat gun. Gives you a more even heat on the Kydex. If you want a flat back pancake style sheath, only put foam on the top of the press or put a thin sheet of plywood under the item to keep the back flat.
Just did 3 knife sheaths today to refresh my skills. Flat back pancake for a BK11 and regular two piece pancake style for a Wilder Forge and another for a Jarosz Knives. Thinking of a sheath for my Kwaiken just to change up my carry method for it.
My heat gun died for smaller projects, but usally use toaster oven or house oven is faster and I like doing the sheath in foam on both sides if plan on selling the knife and sheath because then it can be right or left side carry. But nice revs, cool idea. If I put a piece of cloth and lay on my side of the really hot kydex sheath it will form fit to me also.
Yeah, nice to fit stuff to your own body, but, you might decide to change the way you wear it later down the road. I have a sheath I never use anymore that I fitted to my right side. Put the knife in a KSF pocket sheath now.
I have a couple I changed color on or style so I have spares but then if I make a knife or have one close to size I can reheat kydex and form to fit them also
