I had a little kit, lighter and firesteel. Now I'm working on something bigger. What do you use have? I'd prefer something small for a BOB.
Cottonballs and Vaseline? Magnesium? Twine? Waterproof case?

This is what is in my bags, though not all of it in one bag
Purchased- Bics (mini & regular) , a couple of tea lights, ferro rod, storm proof matches, Magnesium bar, Bosch 5x magnifying lens, Lighting Nuggets, compass, lantern candles
Made or found- Cotton balls and Vaseline in 2" sections of plastic straw or film container, cotton salvaged out of aspirin bottles stored in, wait for it... and aspirin bottle, cotton pads 3/4 dipped in wax, tin of birch bark, dried Chaga, char cloth , chunk of Quartz
I use a lot of dryer lint myself, it catches a spark real well. Mix in some Vaseline or pine-resin for a longer burn time. A piece of fat-wood goes a long way too & it doesn't get messy nor does it require a waterproof container.
I never had much luck with magnesium myself, I still suspect the cheap block I bought to try out is actually aluminum

I've been wanting to play with dryer lint forever...maybe I'll do that today..I have nothin else to do Other than that atm..I just have tons of shavings from my carvings...I keep meanin to get some tinder but then I get a lil lazy...all I really have are a ton of those lil fire cubes...but they work great

I know people who take the sawdust/chips gathered out of the wood shop and soak them in lamp oil until they are saturated, then they pack them real tight in cup cake liners. Pour in melted paraffin and you have another homemade tinder. I think there may be a YT video out there on it too.
