I get a new one from work every couple years. Usually through CFC contributions. There's always something wrong with them though, like you said. One had a rubberized base that fell off the first time I washed it (WTF? It wasn't left soaking either). Another one leaks if you don't crank down on the lid before sipping.
So, I'm mostly posting just for the updates. Because I'm in the market for one of these too.
i love these thermal mugs. Ive had livestrong version of this one, then i also had a generic one that functioned the same. ive had a lot of different coffee mugs and i usually hate them, but these worked great for me. they do not break when you drop them or leak when turned upside down, and i fine them very comfortable to drink from. push the button, drink, push the button. the valve is very strong. stays hot a long time.
yep, i have two small gripes about the last one i had
1- it could have been bigger. 20oz would probably be ideal for me, but i think it was like 14. not that big of a deal 2- cleaning the head/valve was a bit of a pain. That was only really a problem if you tend to leave the thing sititng until the coffee in it gets nasty. if you are persistent about a hot rinse/soak when you are done with it for the day its no big
My wife has a couple of the push button style ones. Those seem to work better than most for her out of the dozen or so we've had since we've been married.

Bought one of those (actually a set of two) at COSTCO and they are awesome, both made the 4,500miles West Coast Trip without any leakage or other accidents

sweet. I had one, my dad had one, and my dad bought a few family members one.........really well received by everyone involved. I think ive tried just about every style of metal thermos-mug
edit- and i was getting AT LEAST 4 to 5 hours of heat retention on my coffee
I wasn't looking really hard for a thermos mug. It's one of those things where, if I look, I won't find.
Sure enough, I stumbled on this, and figured that for ten dollars, it's worth a try. I like Stanley thermoses, because I like old-school shit.
Obligatory publicity shot:
Filled with water:
The paper towel stays dry!
...The second time, anyway. The first time, I didn't have the lid cranked all the way down.
It has a screw-top lid, with a rubber seal around the bottom. When you unscrew the lid partway, there is enough space for liquid to bypass the seal, run through the threads, and into your mouth. Simple, low-maintenance.
I'm not sure about being able to open and close that lid while driving, but I figure it's a compromise between a good seal and ease of use. I can leave the lid partly open while I'm driving.
They have a pushbutton one, too, which seems like it would get gummed up if not rinsed promptly.
I'll let you guys know how it holds up when I drop it!
