I have a Sharpmaker I just picked up, maybe I need to pick up a low-cost knife to build my skills. Maybe that ought to be a marketing approach for Spyderco - "Buy our Sharpmaker, and also buy one of our value line knives to beat the crap out of on the Sharpmaker, then come back and buy something really expensive when you've learned how to sharpen." Or not.
Not for whom it was directed, but this is really an awesome passive/aggressive insult. I'll have to try to slip it into as many conversations as possible.

Woo hoo! Used my Sharpmaker tonight on a new-to-me-but-used PM2, and I musta accidentally done it something resembling correctly, because it's sharper than I got it, and there aren't any funny new lines in the knife edge.

haha I use the hell out of my DMT card. :) Great for travelling. Works nicks out pretty well, with a tiny bit of effort. Hit it on a strop after and you're golden.
I kinda want a Spyderco Doublestuff. Any thoughts?

I have the Fine DMT card in my wallet. It is perfect on the go.
If you are referring to the Goldish stone in the pic that is a Falkniven DC4. AMAZING stone imo. It is diamond on the coarse side and synthetic sapphires on the fine side.

I have no experience with a Doublestuff.
It IS. I actually use the Extra Fine in my wallet, which is why things take a little longer to work out. When I went to buy it, they didn't have the Fine in stock, so I picked up the little keychain one and ended putting it up on the GAW table at the last GTG I was at.
Nah. The DoubleStuff was just a random thought. How is the DC4 anyhow? That was also another one I had thought about getting. :)
Do regular stones not clean as easily as diamond stones? The stones on my Lansky system have a lot of black on them that I just can't get off, but when I had a sharpmaker, it came right off with a little Bartender's Friend and green scrubby pad.
I had a little trouble with cleaning my lansky stones too. The sharpmakers ceramic stones just seem to clean easier imo.

I don't have a Lansky, but I wash all of mine with soap and a scrubby. Works fine... >_O

The DC4 is hands down my favorite free hand stone ever. I am going to be getting the larger version soon.
