My mini commander isn't super smooth and no matter what you do you it makes a squeak sound when your opening it . My CQC-12 looks and performs completely different, the fit and finish is better and is supper amooth opening and closing the blade. I really have grown to love that knife, and I have carried it quite a bit. You can make any emerson less plain with some steel flame and or pete gray stuff
funny, i seem to remember making a similar post about my first Emerson here many months ago. A commander
I sold that knife quickly. I tried one more time and got a CQC7 (waveless)
my initial feelings about that knife were the same when I opened it. Rough, somewhat sloppy, not worth the price they usually command.
I did a bit of work to the knife, and got it to where i LIKE it ok, but i still don't have a desire to carry it.
First, the g10 is horrible to me. I took 600 grit sandpaper to it, then rubbed it on shop carpet a bit to get the texture to where it wouldn't destroy my pants in two passes. That made it much better....
then, take a dremmel and polishing compound to the pivot area on the liners and the blade.
then spent an hour fiddling with the secondary detent to get just enough pressure to still have a bit of blade retention without making the pivot rough.
then put a pete gray thumdisk (green) on it, and a satin Emerson skull clip and a lanyard with a schmuckatelli bead......
after all that, i only kind of like the knife. Its on ebay right now, and currently i feel i probably wont bother with Emerson again.
