Since LDG and The Boom are to lazy to start this I will do it for them
I like car camping with a layer of metal against me and the elements and the boogeymen and whatnot - I do hate sleeping in tents for more reasons but let's keep it short
So no ultralight tent advice from me However, I like light stuff because there is no need to carry/transport bulky stuff when you can do better and once you reach your destination with a plan the whole superlight carry thing becomes pretty important as well
One universal piece for car camping, backpacking, Zombie Apocalypse and whatsoever is a good tarp So here is mine

AJ always your words paint such an elegant picture :giggle:...
Stone, I'm not lazy :MAAH:...ok yes I really am however, fine fine no excuses ...I'll try to get some pics up next Monday as this is the only day my slave driver boss will let me have any fun
As a family girl in general I would only camp/ hike with a huge ass tent and more stuff than I could haul on a barge. Those days are gone...yippy!!! :squee:now a days it's no more than what I can cram in the pack I carry...lil food, any number of devices to help light a fire..fishing and cooking equipment...but all that is suppose to fit in my pack...and will when I upgrade ...and on those really rambunctious days I take a canoe ::D..I still need a small tent, a good sleepin bag ( have one wouldn't say good)...never really liked camping in a car, to crowded and stuffy I like the great outdoors
Uhm, no pictures yet, but I got those same MSR Groundhogs Paw shows in the OP :)
So you will sleep under a tarp, but not in a tent? Idgi
The main reason why I like my tent so much is because it keeps the bugs & wind off me, what's not too like about that?
I'm preparing for a longer backpacking trip to Sweden next spring. I've done a ton of camping in my live, but I usually carry everything on my motorcycle instead of on my back, so I had to cut some weight. But my tent & sleeping-mat had to be replaced anyway this year so the timing was actually pretty good.
I've recently bought a Vango Force Ten Helium, it's about 1330 gram including poles & stakes. There is a UL version with carbon poles as well that's just under a kg I believe, but I thought this one was expensive enough already. The lighter version also uses a bit thinner materials so I feel quit comfortable getting the more durable option. Combined with a Thermarest Neoair All Seasons (large, I like some space to toss & turn) and a Sea To Summit Tk II down bag I'm just a bit over 3kg/6lbs for my entire sleeping system. I pack it all in a Deuter Aircontact 55 + 10, it's a very comfy backpack but not the lightest.
I'm not really an ultralight guy though, I like my comforts too much for that.
I'll try to get some actual gear shots soon including all the little items I collected so far (not there yet), in the meantime I'll leave you with this video of someone else's Helium 200:

I'ma show that one to Norse...we've been lookin round for one that'll suit us. He found some tipi's the other day and I guess I'm old fashion I just love the idea of a tipi...I'm not sure how practical it would be though. I have a three bedroom tent but that would take a pack mule to carry so guess that'll go to the girls...they can fight over it. :DMy new backpack (ya I'll get pic's this weekend) has tons and tons of room...perfect for a lil two man tent
