I laughed because my friend Mike won one of the custom wharnies in the same configurations as Rick. :P Except that Rick carries one from the production line.
You're right. A lot of the makers don't even carry their own knives, and when they do, it's a lot less glamorous than what is put out for the public (usually for the collectors). It's funny 'cause some makers don't even carry knives at all - they enjoy the art. For the most part, they're all very nice people.
(Putting the Hinderer aside since that was for my brother...) not even because of budget or anything, I really enjoyed the smaller, sub-$50 stuff that was out. There's just a lot out there that's within reasonable pricing (for handmade, non-CNC'd) that doesn't really get seen or rep'd too often. Hell, all the items I got this weekend were sub-$50. I didn't care about getting the latest hype, the most expensive thing - I just wanted to hang out with friends and knifemakers. And of the items I did get, I just thought they were cool and/or useful... and pretty. :)

Yeah-all these knifemakers were pretty awesome-tried to talk to as many as I could just so I wasnt standing there drooling at their station...
I love how normal most of them seemed. I usually envision some kind of literally giant charasmatic person with a sense of grandeur-kinda like a rockstar in some ways. But that was only the Strider guys.... Q-only kidding. Only table I didnt like was theirs. Those guys seemed like pricks... it was fun!
And I was really contemplating getting an ohta frikky...but didn't get it..
(About Q's package) Willydigger:
"Is it mailed? Did you mail it? Where's the tracking? I'm pretty excited. I hope he cries. Think he'll cry? What a bitch."
"Q is an asshole, but he's so dumb I feel like hugging him all the time."

"I'm waiting for Digiorno to cook. Three meat, stuffed crust. It's not delivery, but no place delivers here. So. "
