I don't get it. It's the least imaginative design-to-cost ratio in the knife world.
Never thought about it that way. I understand, but I disagree.
It seems to me that many knives are dripping with things that don't have to be there. What interests me is that Laconico seems to be trying to go in the other direction: how much can I remove from a folder?
By taking away all but the most essential components, he allows subtle lines and curves to dominate the design language of his knives, and it is these subtle things that fascinate me.
Seems to me like he's seeing how little work he can do and still command custom prices. It always amazes me the kind of stuff some people will pop a hard on for.
So he's a smart businessman.
I think with a little milling, I could come up with a credible "Jasmine wannabe", using a Mini-Grip as a base.
I mean to try it some time....
Edit: Same goes for the "Blast": new handle scales for a 0560 or '61 would make something very close in looks.
Addendum: The Mini-Barrage might be a better platform for a Jasmine doppelganger.

Capitalism. Make as much money with as little work as possible. There's a sucker born every minute to take advantage of. Gotta respect him for managing to create a small market for low-work load, basic knives at top dollar prices.
Which is part of why I don't buy customs. I like to look at them, but then I start doing the math for materials. The last $400 of a $500 custom are heat treat, and the maker's time.
I don't blame anybody for taking advantage of the market, but I refuse to spend my money when I have access to metalworking equipment.

I'm on the hunt for a Spyderco Native 5 Black G10. I had one and sold it because at the time I hated back locks. How things change. Otherwise IMO the perfect production knife.

If you cannot find a Native, howabout an A.G. Russell "Orca"?
Should have a similar feel in the hand to the Native.
Only thing I can't say for sure about is the blade is that Cro/Moly steel from China (because the knife is sourced), which I have had uneven experiences with. It's either very temperamental in heat-treat, or the heat-treaters are indifferent about their work.
Short, I'd be wary of anything AG Russell. I'm currently trying to get my hands on a ZT 0560. I've looked at other models, specifically the Spyderco Southard which was basically made to take some of 0560's buyers, but I just don't dig it as much. The new Domino looks cool but I'd never actually give money for it, for some reason. Again, I think the 0560 is better for me. I've been enjoying larger knives lately and that's exactly what I want.
On the other hand, a friend is offering to take my Emerson Desert Roadhouse and give me his ZT 0303. I'd take that if that knife wasn't heavy as brick... 8 ounces I think. Also the damned recurve. Why does anyone like recurves??? Riddle me that EDCS.

What is wrong with A.G. Russell? I don't see much of their stuff, but I haven't heard anything bad about them.
Recurve blades tend to pull themselves into a cut, making it easier to make long cuts through flat or rounded media, where your cutting position is less than ideal.
