Sorry for the long radio silence - work has swamped me for the past 3-4 weeks and taken me halfway around the world.
It's my wife's birthday this weekend and I thought I'd use the opportunity to make something with Shapeways' new 24K Gold plated brass.
This was made by printing with wax on an ultra-high resolution 3D printer. A one-off mold was made from plaster and heated to melt out the wax. Brass was then poured into the mold to make a solid brass object. The mold was cracked open, the pendant taken out and polished before electroplating it with 24K Gold. It is smooth
Lazy is more expensive -I can do it for you in polished brass with a purple trit for $50 shipped. That's since it's you. Or in polished sterling silver for $150 (that's mostly due to taxes over here though -if you can get someone in the US to do the trit installation the silver bead alone is $65)
I admit I haven't worn a penguin suit in a while but I do wear a suit every now and then (luckily not required at work). And while the suit is a man's blessing (no need to fret over which dress to wear, just slap on the ol' suit) it is also a man's curse because, let's face it, they all look the same. If every man in the room was in a penguin suit I'd be happy to be the penguin with the glowing cufflinks. :)
Aaanyways, you don't need a suit to wear a shirt and like my shirt on the photo, many have dual option cuffs so you can use them with or without cufflinks. I work in design, where it somethime seems the only valid color is black (charcoal if you're feeling bold). It's fun to be the green glowing guy in a sea of monochrome.
