THIS was a side trip. I had fallen for Laconico designs several months earlier after seeing them on another forum. After researching them, a Laconico folder became my grail and the one custom I decided to save for and buy. I began hunting them and stalking Ray's subforum on BF. I wanted a smaller knife that I could EDC, but all his knives were hard to catch and too expensive if you could (which I didn't).
At one point I saw Ray had posted a thread about a Blast2 he had completed. I was working but I periodically checked the sales forum the next day. On one of my random refreshes it popped up and I mindlessly nabbed it. I knew it wasn't really EDC size, but I was anxious to covet one of his knives and was more than a little impulsive. When I got it I was blown away by the lines and craftsmanship of the knife. It opened like the bearings were made from little balls of butter (hey now!). But it was WAY to big to EDC.
I squirreled it away and never even tried. After a week or so of regretting my decision and thinking about what a waste of money it was if I wasn't going to carry it, I put it up for sale as my first and only catch/release. I waited a bit before putting it up on BF, but once I did it sold in less than 10 minutes to a collector in China. I still have a couple of pics to show for it. This was a cool one...
Lesson learned. More to come tomorrow if time allows. Thanks for reading!
Thanks all! I glad to know others are enjoying the thread. I was really doing it for my own entertainment as this stuff doesn't seem all that exciting. That and I feel like I'm contributing some actual EDC material rather than annoying everyone on the Shoutbox like I normally do.
I wasn't really in the mood to type about it yesterday but there is a little more to the Blast2 sale story...
Before putting the knife up I sought the advice of another Laconico fanboy (I say that with love). He suggested putting the knife up on BF or USN. Good advice, but I actually wanted to offer it to the peeps on "that other forum" first so I might at least get to see some pics of the knife every now and again or hear stories about it rather than it being locked up in a safe in China.
So, I created a sales thread and actually put some time and effort into it; I checked all the rules, wrote the intro that is essentially the first post of this thread, took some nice pics (nice for me, anyway) like the ones posted previously, and laid out a decent sales thread. I posted the knife in that forum's BST a day early and (carefully following the rules) I specifically mentioned in the first post that if it didn't sell by the next day I would be putting it up on BF (USN had not "accepted" me yet).
People seemed to really appreciate the fact that I put some time into it and commented that they were entertained (which I appreciated). But, ultimately, no one was interested in making the same mistake I made (smarter people than me - it is an EDC forum after all, right?). So, I put it up on BF as I said I would. As you know it sold in a matter of minutes. So, I went back and dutifully edited the post to cut out all the crap and show it had sold on another forum, but (carefully following the rules) I left the price. I then added a post thanking everyone and saying it was sold on another forum.
As soon as I add that last post, after it's aaaaalll over, as soon as I call in the dogs and piss on the fire (I love that expression), I get another post from a constipated cat indicating that I was clearly in violation of... "BST Rule 9!" Whereas the party of the first part must notify the parties of the second part heretofore in first clause paragraph which must include language that alludes to the fact that the aforementioned edged apparatus was made available for alternative purchase on another forumus maximus. Like I never mentioned it would be made available on another forum. Not only did he not read the initial post when it was made, as a mod should (if he had he would have noticed that I did, in fact, follow the rules) but he ASSumed that I had done it incorrectly, which I had not. Which he had to immediately spout off to the world in the name of self-importance.
Yeah, I let it get to me a little bit. I had put in a lot of time into being a thoughtful contributor only to get a thoughtless virtual slap. But, I took the high road and explained that I had followed the rules but that I had removed that when I edited the first post. No response at all. I know, probably not as big a deal as I'm making it, but it was just one of a bunch of mod-related instances that really put me off of that site. Thanks for letting me get it off my chest.
To reward you for staying with me on that one and to avoid a boring post with no pic, here is one of Corny's mom I happen to have lying around...
Corny's mom has got it goin' on!!! Amazing family resemblance.
Not much different from before here (I know, *yawn*) except the Monroe is set up the way I usually carry it now. Still a little dangler cray-cray, but justified on the Alox. One day I'll get around to adding a pocket clip to that Pioneer, it would make it a perfect carry knife. Maybe scissors as well. Someday.

thats really annoying. i wont sell anything on that forum ever again, partially because of annoying shit like that but mostly because im not giving that forum any more of my money. I might buy something from other members there if its suits me. I check the bst threads once or twice a week for giggles.
i logged on last week to find a PM from the constipated cat about how i was in violation of some rule, and provided me a list of each date i had violated the rule.
i was annoyed.
granted, it was about hotlinking :lawl: but i was still annoyed
I'm getting a little wacky on the blue thing here. I was checking out flippers (still depressed over the Laconico loss), when I came across this slick new Ken Onion design that wasn't too pricey and really dug the blue, so I ordered one. Turns out it's a really nice ball-bearing flipper, pretty sharp too. A little too thin and I really don't dig the clip that much, but a decent knife for the money.
Right about the time I was waiting for it, I was checking out Atwood prices on fleabay just as this little blue-patterned Wrunt was about to sell. Not a bad price, but I knew it would go up. I was talking myself out of bidding and, like an idiot, decided I would put in 1 reasonable bid right as it sold, so I would have no opportunity to be even more of an idiot and raise it. Thus my third Atwood acquisition. At least I didn't take a reaming like the Prybaby.

I would be TOTALLY annoyed. And to send you a list of the dates? > It's over so I really don't want to launch into a tirade, but of all the interaction I had with the mods, even when asking a simple question or trying to be a good forum citizen, ended with a sh*t-ton of frustration and feeling like being treated like a child. Kahuna's a lot of things, but a child ain't one.
One of the few CRKTs I really really like. Shame about clip being on the wrong side though :P I'm still not impressed by 90% of the Atwoods I see... Although I would like a Prybaby of some sorts, I like the lines of that thing :)

i want one fo those crkts eventually......its just one of those items that i like, but i still would rather spent the 60 or 70 bucks on something else, so who knows when/if i will ever get one
i like the prybaby too. i just refuse to pay the secondary price for them. just silly, direct they are relatively reasonable i think

Yeah, the Wrunt is a decent Atwood, but not quite as useful as my Prybaby. And I agree on the secondary market price thing. I probably shouldn't have bid, but I don't regret it. I could sell it tomorrow and not lose any money if I wanted. I really only want one more Atwood and I will be "done" - a plain Ti G2 Keyton. From what I've seen and heard it's the most useful of his designs.
Ok, I admit I have a slight problem. I did pick up a steel Crypto because I happened to hit a PPT sale in progress. Unprecedented for me. I also freely admit that I was so shocked to hit a sale in progress that I'm not sure I actually looked to see what was for sale, I just clicked. It, of course, is the only Atwood I've been able to purchase from straight-up hitting a sale. I'm not crazy about the design, but it isn't useless, it has a Prybaby tip on it, and it has a pretty nice heft to it.
Here is a craptastic gangbang pic of my current Atwood harem:
I realize my Atwood habit is a problem, but it's not critical yet. I have no desire to have a huge collection of no-carry rarities (not that there's anything wrong with that).
My first pic with my USN coin. I also got a new G10 scale for my Cryo which solves one of the issues I had with the knife. I love the Hinderer design of the Cryo and I think its one of the best values (if not THE best value) available for an EDC knife. It carries really well partially because of it's shape and size, but also because it has better designed clip than any of the (more expensive) knives I own. Pretty damn sharp too.
One of the drawbacks, I've always felt (and many don't agree) that it is heavy for it's size. The G10 scale helps a lot with that. Another drawback is that the thumbstuds are as useless as tits on a bull. For some reason, it's become a little tougher on the close now that I've mucked with it, too.
Oddly enough I did not pick the Toxic green because it is the USN color, but because I liked the way it looked on the Cryo in the pictures I saw on the Gator Scales website. Don is a pretty good guy AND a Gator, to boot! Doesn't get much better than that!
I really like this setup. It's pretty much how I carry today. I usually just swap out knives and swap or throw in an extra Atwood depending on my mood / what I'm doing that day.

Calling it a day. More later. Peace out!
Nice coin!! Love that scale. I should really carry my cryo more. Damn Strider
