Let me start this off by saying, I think shoes are probably the most difficult purchase I could ever make. Not necessarily the styling, but just can't make up my mind since there are new models every month for millions of companies (or what seems like millions).
For nearly a year, I've tried finding a very long lasting shoe, and have tried a ton of companies-from vans to timberland, merrell, every skate shoe company, and other standards like Nike, puma, converse, etc...never found that "one" shoe...
Now, I know this sounds like every single shoe available, but keyword is shoe. No boots. I know I can always grab a pair of Timberlands if I needed to.
I was thinking constant shtf/survival capable. No damn thong sandals. Maybe moccs (even though never really been a fan of the style). And those might last long term.
Any tips/experiences/stories greatly appreciated! And thanks in advance

If SHTF capable is a quality you're looking for, then I would suggest a hiking boot. In that situation, I wouldn't want to be wearing low cut shoes.
Look at getting a custom pair of White's. Once you get over the sticker shock of a well made pair of comfortable durable footwear and think about the cost per year it is very reasonable. Say you take care of a quality pair of boots and it lasts you at least 10+ years. 400 dollar boots at $40/year is great in my book if they are comfy.
Going with shoes I would suggest Alden, AE or Mephisto. Comfy and they can be rebuilt at the factory or cobbler for many years.
You're going to have to give up either Comfort/Durability or Affordable. No way around it.
I used some Salomon GoreTex for two years now and have beaten the crap out of those. Very comfy, durable, price was ok, but shoes in murica are generally cheaper than at home... Looking forward to get another pair soon...
i'm with mooshi, i'm a bootgirl. i love my dr martens, freakin last forever. but i scored these danners from cabelas yesterday with my gift card. they were the only womans pair in the bargain cave and fit like it was meant to be

Boots.
LUCKY!!! I still need a new pair of work boots. Might run out and get a pair of 5.11 ATACs. But then it wouldn't look good for work if I trashed it on hikes. :( Wish I had Danners.
And why can't RedWing make some nice girl boots?

trust me i know, there is a redwing store right inside the jerzey border that i checked out one day.....very disappointed so i've been looking for new boots for at least 2yrs now and its been either- not my size or not in my budget and these bad girlz i would've never bought if i didnt win that gift card.
i took it as a "maybe things are starting to look up" sign
I'm still on my first pair of Skechers after about 3 years I would say. Bought a second pair, same design too, since I can't pull off neon colors out today from Nike and the like. Old pair is now for around the house/mowing yard, and new for going out. Still haven't worn out the first pair. I like 'em.

it things REALLY did hit the fan, id want some sort of comfy boots for walking through various terrains (water/mud especially since wet socks suck) but thats SOOOOOO unlikely so I just stick to Saucony Jazz. about 35 bucks and a pair will last me 5+ years. Currently own three pair. love em.
I'm kinda diggin' the Stratfords - seems like they can serve double duty as every day boots as well as work boots until the next uniform issue rolls around.

Norse said I should get out my boot collection starting with my Lara Croft ..so guess I'll dig em out over my THREE DAY WEEKEND coming up...meanwhile summer time only wear flipflops or naked...feet that is
Gangsta shit. I'll show you mine tomorrow, but they're all white lowtops with white laces. Because I'm shoe racist. For classier dress I love oxford type leather shoes but it's a difficult process for me to choose a pair. I'm built very awkwardly so I have really strong thighs and calves, so I look really funny in longer, narrower shoes.
PS. fuck flip flops. They're an abomination and everyone wearing them should be punched in the balls.
PPS. a man has not yet been born who looks good in sandals.
