This was briefly in my possession. It ain't no Microtech!
A big OTF that had a really rough time. It's aluminum, and the one thing that surprised me was that it was still holding together.
Somebody took it apart to see what was up, and couldn't put it back together. It found it's way indirectly to me for a look-see, and I got the pieces to fit again.
It's pretty simple inside, but the spring is under tension, and that makes it hard to get right. Once you get it right, it's easy to put the other slab on, because you're not fighting tension from the lock, as you would on a liner- or framelock.
After it was all assembled, I found the problem: the casing was bent, where the blade comes out. The blade jammed inside the knife, permanently. Aluminum usually breaks soon after it bends, so that was the end of my work. I took it back, and described what it would take to repair it in three words:
"Possible, but expensive."
To get it working right again, somebody would have to machine at least one completely new side. My guess? 110$ at the very least.
The entire knife probably didn't cost that much.....

Some knives get put in the rotation and I don't worry about love marks. A very few, I hardly ever carry.
This one continues to be strange.
%50, I want to keep it minty, because I still haven't decided to keep it. %50, I want to carry it and use it, because I have a philosophical aversion to safe queens.
I'm either going to get it scuffed and decide to keep it, or it will stay pristine until I decide to flip it. We'll see what happens.

The guy who actually posts on a spyderco forum nice shiny
My love for Spyderco has come back with the Mantra. Instant boner. And there is still talk about a new PM3 in the works, so there might be more good news on the horizon.
And my love for the TC is starting to fade. I'm not a fan of the TC14 and it think it will have a big impact on the releases of future TC15s. There hasn't been a TC15 clip releases in a long time. Save

I think a mini pm2 would be cool, but man that Mini Southard is the bee's tits.
(About Q's package) Willydigger:
"Is it mailed? Did you mail it? Where's the tracking? I'm pretty excited. I hope he cries. Think he'll cry? What a bitch."
"Q is an asshole, but he's so dumb I feel like hugging him all the time."

That mini Southard isn't a real Spyderco. It looks decent, but it also looks fat and heavy. And if I recall no lanyard hole either. Gay. Save

I can't help but think these lockbar inserts are going to go away eventually, but it's a good idea....
The metallic clip screws against the blue clip bother me for some reason.
I'm not wild about the blue. I think the clip is getting replaced, and I really want a chain ring bolt for the pivot. I'll have to figure out how to get that damn thing out of there.
I've been an unapologetic fan of Ray Laconico's clean (boring?) designs since I first saw them on Bladeforums. Not sure how long ago that was, but at least four years. I knew I would never be able to get one of his customs, so when I saw that the Jasmine was being mass-produced as the Kizer Gemini......
I might have squeed.
I was very taken by Filip De Coene's designs, and Mr. Laconico seems to follow the same design ethos. Perfection is achieved not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away: the knife, stripped of all but a collection of lines and curves.
For all of this, the Jasmine does compromise function for form. There is a subtle relationship between where your index finger wants to rest on a knife, and how easy it is to get the point down into whatever your want to cut. The Jasmine does not make this as easy as some others, but as you might have noticed from my insistence on calling it by the same name as the original custom, I don't give a damn.
I could go on and on. There are things about it I want to change, and as time goes on, I may. I get over knives pretty fast, especially when I know there is no chance I will own one. But the Jasmine, is something I've never quite been able to move on from. So to own such a faithful production version is a new experience for me, and I want the good to last beyond any minor problems.
