Various friction folders go round these days, but the original designs are centuries old. One example is the classic below: a Sardinian handmade Pattada.
I'm a little on the fence about these. I really like the looks & dimensions of some I've seen, but I don't think I'd feel comfortable using them. Maybe one day, when I can't think of other knives to buy anymore.

Well a Pattada ain't no knife to take out for cutting open 100's of boxes in a day, nor will it be useful in any zombie apocalypse, heck it does not even have a nail nick, so quick draws are out of the question, it is a real 2 hand opener. But it has got some nice features that make it very useful for EDC, it weighs next to nothing, and it has a blade! It is excellent to use for food consumption, and the occasional letter/package opening. This is one knife that I will still rotate in my carry when I am going to be old and grey.
