I was thinking of setting a target on the back of my shed and practice physics with sharp metallic objects. Anyone have any experience? What would be a good set of knives for a beginner? In the limited research I have done, I see beginners should use a longer blade and know that they will hit each other so gold plated is out.
I know what you mean, although truly if I am concerned about them imitating me, I'd be more worried about them becoming fat asses with health problems.
For a rookie thrower, I would say look into some of the, dare I say it, Cold Steel models. True Flight and Mini Flight would be decent starters to learn on. I've handled both and they seem like good throwers. When we get situated at our new place, that is one thing I plan on getting set up again. A target for throwing knives and tomahawks at. And maybe a bow target. I started on a set of Hibben throwers that were a little too small. Hell, still have them kicking around here in my knife box.
I had an old piece of hand railing, so I cut it into 1" chunks and glued them to some plywood. There is a piece of old conveyor belt behind the plywood. Nailed that to a wall in my shed and started throwing. Took a quick video with my phone, I'll try to get better vid later.
It really isn't that hard. Had a roommate that tried for a long time to do it and never could. Pissed him off when I would grab whatever knife was sitting around and stick it in he door. Steak knife, butcher knife, whatever.
I need to try the no spin method and see how that works. But, need some throwers first.
I tried to make a better video. Excuse my girly voice.
You make me miss throwin. Was my shit a few years back...Got pretty good at no spin, half, full, 1/2, and 2. Prob not the greatest form but it was all experimentation. So fun but haven't had a place to do it. I find when you're just throwin blade after blade, it doesn't matter what knife you get- you'll just want ah-LOHT
(About Q's package) Willydigger:
"Is it mailed? Did you mail it? Where's the tracking? I'm pretty excited. I hope he cries. Think he'll cry? What a bitch."
"Q is an asshole, but he's so dumb I feel like hugging him all the time."

"I'm waiting for Digiorno to cook. Three meat, stuffed crust. It's not delivery, but no place delivers here. So. "

No spin is my fav cause you can throw it as hard as you want-consistently. All you need to do is let it fly off perpendicular(ish) to your pointer and let it slide off. Follow through.
Yeah, I could stick old fake ninja stars, ice picks, and even nails (not deep though). Just so gratifying
