I allowed Windows to install updates last night, and now I have a little icon in the bottom right that says "get Windows 10" when I hold my mouse arrow over it.
I'm running Windows 7 (not Vista, just plain Windows), and I hate to admit that I'm not too unhappy with it. It doesn't crash, and it plays well with other programs.
I have no intention of "getting Windows 10" for at least three months, because Microsoft isn't paying me to beta test their software.
When I do upgrade, or when it decides to upgrade itself without telling me, I want to know what kind of problems I should expect.
Has anybody heard about Windows 10? How bad is it?
Windows Vista -> Windows 7 Windows 8 -> Windows 10
It should be good. They are fixing everything I hated about Win8. It should run more efficiently than Windows 7 so expect performance increase. DirectX 12 for the gamers. DX12 is basically forcing all the gamers to move to 10 no matter what so they can't fuck about.
Like you said, a bug here and there is to be expected so waiting to migrate might be a good idea.

The last days of free download are bugging me too. I just know the second I upgrade, my CPU will get all shitty and start locking up or something. Happens with every major update and I end up buying another computer or some dumb shit. I hate these
It hasn't been too bad, fellas. A different set of bugs from the last one, but no more than the usual with Microshit.
The two most persistent ones are that if I let my computer go to sleep, sometimes the display won't turn on again, and I have to reboot. If I tell the computer to go to sleep on purpose, instead of letting it "time out", this doesn't happen.
The other persistent bug is that it won't allow itself to be updated! Every time Microshit sends out a major automatic update, my version sits there and spins for a while, then crashes, and resets itself to the previous version!
I don't have the patience anymore to go in and dig around in the code. It works 99% of the time, and that's better than I expect of Windows.
If you update, the first thing you should do is turn off "Cortana". This is Windows' trying to emulate Siri, and doing their usual bad job of it. Cortana is like the paper clip: obnoxious, intrusive, and possessed of a fifth grade education.
Actually, Cortana is slightly worse: early on, I would be surfing, and the Start menu would just appear randomly, on top of what I was doing, to suggest some random, lame, celebrity bullshit article that it thought I might be interested in.
It wasn't Cortana's fault, really. with all the anti-tracking software that I have running, it's almost impossible for any company to gather search metrics on me. Cortana was flying blind.
I don't remember how I turned it off, but they don't hide the options too much. Just type in "turn off cortana" in your search bar and you'll be able to do it.

If you have Windows 8, you'll love 10. If you like 7 then stick with 7.
I like it but I only upgraded because DirectX12 and the Microsoft store only work on Windows 10 and I really only wanted those things for video games. So if you don't plan on playing a lot of Windows exclusive games I wouldn't bother.

I'm using Windows 10 and I like it more than 7. Smoother and no issues running any programs. Also easy to crack which is important in Siberia. If you're in doubt, I'd get 7, then 10, and then lastly 8 because it sucks balls. You're gonna need a bit more RAM for 10 so keep that in mind
